Did you Know Tips:
Green water is a common problem in both aquariums and more so in ponds. This is caused not only be excessive unwanted nutrients in the water but mainly from excessive lighting, daylight being the biggest problem. In aquariums, we recommend moving the tank away from any direct sunlight, and also making sure the tank lights aren’t on too long, 8 hrs usually being long enough. If problems still persist then we can carry out a full water test and it may be that high phosphate and nitrate levels may also be contributing to the problem. Green water in ponds are best controlled with a UV clarify unit. Water is passed through the unit where UV light breaks down the free floating algae cells and the result is clearer water. You can purchase separate UV clarifier units that we can match up with your pond pump and we also sell complete pond pump, filters and UV clarifiers all in one. If you already have a UV clarifier on and your pond has turned green, when did you last change your UV bulb? As they need to be changed at least every year but nearer to every 6 months. |
